SYNTOCINON contains Oxytocin which belongs to the group of medicines called Uterine Stimulants. It is used to induce labor pain among full-term pregnant women. It strengthens uterine contractions among full-term pregnant women who aim for a successful vaginal delivery when the labour is not progressing at a desired rate or when the mother’s body does not initiate uterine contractions on its own. It is also used to induce labour pain among mothers who require an immediate delivery due to health complications such as preeclampsia, maternal diabetes, etc., and helps in the management of inevitable or incomplete miscarriages (abortion). It also speeds up the delivery of placenta, once after childbirth and can control excessive bleeding after delivering the baby. Before receiving SYNTOCINON inform your doctor if you have any problems in your kidneys or heart. You must also inform your doctor if you have any problems in blood circulation or previously had a caesarean section delivery or any other surgeries on the uterus as a precaution. SYNTOCINON should not be used in women for whom vaginal delivery (normal delivery) is not advisable (such as due to inappropriate baby’s position or placenta’s position, baby’s head is too large to fit in your pelvis, cord around the neck of the baby, etc.,) During management with SYNTOCINON, you must inform your doctor immediately if your contractions does not increase or becomes mild (or less strong) after administering this medicine. The most common side effects of receiving SYNTOCINON are nausea, vomiting, headache, and irregular pulse. Consult your doctor if any of these side effect troubles you.
