Selsun Suspension is an antifungal preparation used to manage and control dandruff and tinea versicolor (a common fungal infection causing small, discoloured patches of skin). It contains selenium as an active ingredient which acts by slowing down the cell growth of the scalp layer that causes dandruff.
Selenium Disulfide exerts a cytostatic (inhibits the cell growth) effect on the follicular epithelium and epidermis cells, which decreases the production of corneocytes (cells which produce outer layer of the skin). As a result, it relieves itching and flaking of the scalp and removes the dry, scaly particles.
Always use Selsun Suspension as directed by the physician. It is for external use only. Avoid contact with eyes. It should not be used when acute inflammation or exudation (oozing out) is present.
Selsun Suspension should not be used to manage tinea versicolor during pregnancy. Safety and effectiveness in infants have not been established so, consult your child’s doctor for advice.
