Prevodine ointment is a topical antiseptic and disinfecting agent used for the management of infections in wounds and cuts. It contains Povidone Iodine as an active ingredient which is effective against bacteria including spores, fungi, yeast, protozoa, and viruses even in the presence of blood, serum, pus and necrotic tissue.
Povidone Iodine works by penetrating the cell wall of these microorganisms. It disrupts their proteins and nucleic acid structure and synthesis, resulting in killing the harmful microbes. It also controls their growth, thereby managing infections in the affected area.
