PIGOLYN CREAM contains Trioxsalen which belongs to the group of medicines called Photosensitizers. It is used in the management of vitiligo (a pigmentation disorder of the skin that causes loss of skin color in patches) along with ultraviolet (UV) light and to increase the tolerance of the skin from the sunlight.
Trioxsalen works by photosensitization of the skin when exposed to UV or sunlight which is converted to its active metabolite to produce a beneficial reaction affecting the diseased tissue (reduces the abnormal cells and re-pigments the discolored skin).
After photoactivation it creates cross-links in DNA, which can cause programmed cell death. Your doctor may recommend you take relevant tests to understand your existing condition.
