LIGNOWIN 2% GEL contains Lignocaine, which belongs to the group of medicines called Local anaesthetic agents. It causes numbness of body parts at sites where it has been applied. It is used for temporary relief of pain and discomfort associated with skin abrasions, sun burns, insect bites, sore nipples, haemorrhoids (piles), anal fissures, bed sores, shingles, or cold sores (painful skin rash or blisters around the mouth due to viral infections).
It can also be used to relieve pain following circumcision in children (a surgery that removes the foreskin from the human penis) and to soothe itching around the rectum, anus (pruritus ani), or female genitalia (vulva).
It also relieves pain caused by oral sores and can numb the mouth and throat prior to any dental procedures (such as scaling or denture fixing).
It acts as an anaesthetic lubricant for catheterization, intubation, and other diagnostic procedures (such as proctoscopy, rectoscopy, cystoscopy, gastroscopy, bronchoscopy, esophagoscopy, etc.).
If you are managed with LIGNOWIN 2% GEL in your oral cavity, avoid oral foods or chewing gums for at least 60 minutes or until sensation comes back in your mouth. This is because you may experience trouble swallowing or accidentally bite your tongue or cheek muscles during this period.
Before using LIGNOWIN 2% GEL, inform your doctor if you have any liver, kidney, or heart problems. You must also inform your doctor if you have any infections or injuries at the site of application as a precaution.
LIGNOWIN 2% GEL can be used for pregnant and breastfeeding women if considered necessary. It is generally safe and well tolerated without any major side effects. However, if you experience any skin rash or irritation on the application site or feel drowsy, consult your doctor for advice.
