ACTIDE 100MCG INJECTION is used in the management of acromegaly (a condition where body produces more amount of growth hormones), certain types of tumours of gastrointestinal tract (such as carcinoid tumours, VIPomas, glucagonomas, gastrinomas, insulinomas), pituitary tumours that produce too much thyroid-stimulating hormone when other types of treatment (surgery or radiotherapy) are not working and other pituitary hormone imbalances. It can also be used to reduce complications like abscess in abdomen and inflammation following surgery of the pancreas and to stop bleeding from ruptured gastro-oesophageal varices in patients suffering from cirrhosis (chronic liver disease). Octreotide mimics somatostatin, controlling the release of growth hormone, insulin, and gut hormones by binding to specific receptors.
